Lawrence Lewis Dwyer (Larry), 79, of Denver, NC, died on June 7, 2025, following a courageous battle with glioblastoma.
Larry was born in Watertown, NY, on March 7, 1946, to the late Bernard James and Grace Mina Dwyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Anne Dwyer, and his second wife, Linda Seibert Dwyer.
Larry considered himself fortunate to have shared his life with two wonderful partners and to have raised a close and loving family.
He graduated from The State University of New York at Oswego with a BS in Biology and went on to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves. He built a career in the paper industry, managing mills across the U.S. and abroad, with assignments in Russia and Finland. Throughout his career, he lived in eight states—from Maine to Texas—and retired from International Paper in 2006.
Following retirement, Larry made his home in Albuquerque, NM, before eventually settling in North Carolina. A passionate traveler, he also had a lifelong love for horses and motorcycles.
Larry had a generous heart and was deeply committed to helping others. He volunteered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Jacob’s Ladder, and the Urban Ministry Center in Charlotte, to name a few. He was also a long-time supporter of Food for the Poor. A true jack of all trades, he found joy in putting his skills to good use—whether working on projects at the barn, tackling home repairs for family and friends, or simply fixing whatever needed fixing. Always ready to lend a hand and share a laugh, Larry’s generosity, know-how, and steady presence left a lasting mark on all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
He is survived by his three children: Christopher Lawrence Dwyer and his wife Laura of Philadelphia, PA; Mark Aaron Dwyer and his wife Jennifer of Fort Mill, SC, along with their children Jacob and Nolan; and Erin Elizabeth Murtha and her husband Timothy of Charlotte, NC, along with their children Lauren and Grace. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Jennifer Miller, and her husband, Kevin of Mooresville, NC, and his step-grandchildren Braxton and Reese.
Visitation will be held at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 2:30PM. A Funeral Mass will follow at 3PM and interment will be announced at a later date..
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Larry’s memory to FoodForThePoor.org.
For those who can not make it to the service, it will be streamed live at the following link: https://boxcast.tv/channel/it5pks2xxbbjugdsgspo
