Jennie Sakaye Ito, Age 100, passed away peacefully April 15, 2025. She was born January 31, 1925, in Eastlake, Colorado to Sadaicho and Tsutayo Higuchi. Although her live birth was in January, her birth was not legally registered until July 31, 1925. She married the love of her life, Eddie M. Ito, in June of 1953 who preceded her in death in 2017.
Jennie went to Eastlake School from 1st-7th grade. Upon graduating 8th grade at Riverdale school, she commuted to Adams City High School until graduation.
Jennie worked hard throughout her life. She grew up helping on the family farm. Her fondest memory of the farm was when her and her sister, Mary, would have a competition with the neighbor boys, on how fast they could fill a truck load of sugar beets, and the number of truck loads filled that day. She said they always bested the boys, season after season. She also shared her love of food through the many years working for the Littleton school food service. She prepared and served handmade lunches for the schoolchildren until retirement. She loved gardening, fishing, camping, and travel. Her favorite fishing trips were to Alaska for halibut and traveling throughout Colorado and Wyoming looking for the next best fishing hole.
She is survived by her children; daughter Sharon Allen (Tyler), sons Larry (Laura) Ito and Gene (Jennifer) Ito. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Jessica Allen, grandsons Austin Ito and Logan Ito and great grandson Adam Wentzloff. All of whom she loved and touched deeply. Jennie is preceded in death by her mother, father, son, Gary Ito and 3 sisters.
Please join us celebrating her life Friday morning May 16, 2025 at 11am in the Mausoleum at Fairmount Mortuary, 430 S Quebec Street, Denver. A reception will follow the ceremony.
