She was born the daughter of Edwin and Norma (Gottschalk) Gadke on June 19, 1935 in rural Stanwood, IA. She grew up with her sisters on a farm near Stanwood, IA. She attended and graduated in 1953 from Clarence Consolidated School in Clarence, IA.
In October 1950 she met Robert Gregory at HiWay Gardens in Stanwood. On December 6, 1953 they were united in marriage by Rev. Edward Bowers at the Reformed Church in Clarence, IA. They moved to a farm northwest of Clarence where their two daughters, Sheryl and Patricia, were born.
In the spring of 1962 they purchased two adjoining farms north of Rochester. Soon after, they added a son, Robert E., to their family. In 1972 they sold those farms and purchased a farm east of Rochester. She enjoyed raising vegetables and flowers and did many hours of canning and freezing garden produce.
She was a member of Rochester United Methodist Church since October 1967. As a member she held many offices over the years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, devoting many hours to things like making noodles, angel food cakes and running the salad department for the annual church supper.
She had a passion for genealogy, and helping others research their family history. She did sewing, knitting, crocheting and many other crafts to sell at craft shows in the area. She worked with Robert to make treasures out of wood for family members and also for sale at the craft shows. In 1984 she worked with others to setup the Cedar County Farmers Market where she sold homemade items on Saturday mornings for years.
She volunteered at the Cedar County Fair and exhibited items for many years. She was very proud of the ribbons and awards she won. She also volunteered many hours helping with things in the community, like the establishing the S.E.A.T.S bus and working at Tipton Lions Club events.
She is survived by one sister, Emma Lou Armstrong, Mechanicsville; two daughters, Sheryl Gregory and Patricia (David) Helmold, Tipton and son Robert E. Gregory, Stanwood; grandchildren, Tracy (Larry) Covington, Jennifer (Mike) Redlinger, Sarah Helmold, Lindsay (Devin) Beni, Bethany Gregory, Patrick Gregory, and Lauren Gregory; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Skyler, Michael, Alyn, Quintin, Olivia, Samuel and Natalie; great-great-grandchildren, Abagail, McKenzie, Marshall, Carter, Logan, Oaklyn.
