Winifred A. Hull (Wini)
Cedar Rapids
Winifred A. Hull (Wini), 99, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 6, 2024. At Wini’s request, there will be immediate cremation, and no public services.
Wini was born on Oct. 27, 1924 in Burns, KS, to Clarence and Elgie (Oursler) Riggs. She attended Wichita Business College, and while working at the office of The Boy Scouts of America in Wichita, she met her future husband, Nat Hull. They were married on Oct. 14, 1944, and after being transferred to Des Moines, IA, their son, Terry was born in 1948. They were again transferred in 1950 to Cedar Rapids, which became their permanent home. Their daughter, Kathy was born in 1951, completing their family.
Wini worked, in a voluntary capacity, at St. Luke’s Hospital for 50 years. For many of those years she was in charge of training teenage volunteers for the Peppermint Kids program (St. Luke’s equivalent of Candystripers). She also spent many years working in Surgicare, connecting the doctors with their patients’ families.
Wini also played the violin throughout her life, beginning when she was only 7 years old and playing until her fingers would no longer cooperate.
She had many wonderful friends during her long life, most of whom are enjoying her beautiful smile once again, but for those of us who are still here on earth, things are not quite the same – she was a wonderful person, and she is definitely missed.
Wini is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hull Heath, Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Nat, son Terry, stepson Jim, brother Edward Riggs, sister Lorraine Catlin, and sister Bonnie Joyce Mattox.
