William Woodrow Russell, Sr.

William Woodrow Russell, Sr., 87, of Sherman, died at 12:55 am, Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born April 8, 1933 in Springfield, to Woodrow and Lucy Malloy Russell. He married Sherron Mann on March 6, 1954 and she survives.

Also surviving are six children, Deborah Childress of Springfield, William W. (Debra) Russell, Jr. of Pleasant Plains, James (Jan) Russell of Springfield, Michael (Sandra) Russell of Springfield, Kevin (Kim) Russell of Springfield and Chris (Tami) Russell of Springfield; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters, Kay Miller of Springfield and Susan Graves of Battle Ground, WA; two brothers, Woodrow Russell of CA and Randy Russell of Battle Ground, WA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

William was a member of the Sangamon County Rescue Squad for twenty years and retired as Chief. He received the Presidential Volunteer Award from H.W. Bush. William was a member of Route 66 Cruisers; 97 Crusaders; Cool Cruisers; Knuckle Busters Car Club and Kaiser Frazier Car Club.

He retired from Garrett Aviation.

Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Monday, January 18, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Trenton Rauck officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sangamon County Rescue Squad or Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
