William “Bill” L. Meriwether

William “Bill” L. Meriwether, 82, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Regency Care. He was born on July 29, 1940 in Taylorville, IL to Lyman A. and Glenna Kennerly Meriwether. He married Kathryn “Kathy” E. Bale on July 21, 1984 and she survives.
He is also survived by his step-daughter, Kimberly Niewold of MO; and sister-in-law, Shirley Meriwether of Dubuque, IA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bruce Meriwether.
Bill was a graduate of Taylorville High School and attended college at SIU-Edwardsville. He was a life underwriter for an insurance company for many years. He was of the Presbyterian faith and loved worshipping and singing at Westminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed anyone’s company, and especially loved to cook and entertain.
It was Bill’s desire to donate his body to Scientific Medical Research due to his extensive medical history. Therefore, no services will be held, however inurnment will eventually take place at Westminster Presbyterian Church’s Columbarium.
In memory of Bill, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church – 533 S. Walnut St., Springfield, IL 62704; or to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702.
