William “Bill” Anthony Schulte, 89, of Amana, Iowa, passed away Aug. 23, 2022, at Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha, Iowa.

William was born Aug. 20, 1933, youngest of William and Anna (Thoman) Schulte in Norway, Iowa. Bill was raised on the family farm in rural Norway, graduating from Walford High School. Following school, Bill enlisted into the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Upon his return, he went to Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. As an electrician, Bill worked at several places, including Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

On June 6, 1960, Bill married Frances Lorraine Frederick at St. Patrick’s Church in Cedar Rapids. Together they raised their children on the family farm and spent a short time in Cassville, Mo., where Bill was a painter and locksmith along with his electrical skills, before moving to rural Amana. Bill also worked for the Hiawatha Post Office and the Amana Furniture Shop in which he retired at the age of 62.

Together the couple enjoyed attending dances at the Royal Ballroom and the Ponderosa in Walford. Once retired Bill and Frances spent time camping and traveling, including many trips to Alaska. Bill was always working on projects and was a master at restoration, completing many beloved John Deeres at the highest of standards. He looked forward to attending Gathering of the Green, Dyersville National Toy Show and the Iowa State Fair. Bill enjoyed being outdoors, growing tomato plants and showing his love of birds by hanging birdfeeders everywhere.

Bill was a member of the Two-Cylinder Club, Fairfax American Legion and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Norway.

Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances of Amana; children, Lori (Steve) Havran of Norway and Joel (Darci) Schulte of Amana; grandchildren, Eric Havran, Amber (Jason) Dibben, Nicole (Eric) Kern, Connie (Matthew) Wason, Holli (Sam) Becker and Trey Schulte; great-grandchildren, Raven Oliver and Rose Dibben, Harper and Madison Kern; sister-in-law, Marj Schulte; beloved dog, Cooper and cat, Wafer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Andrew Schulte and Vicki Schulte; grandson, Blane Schulte; and siblings, Clarence and Melvin Schulte and Audrey Erwood.

Bill’s family would like to thank the staff at Oldorf Hospice House for their wonderful care and compassion.

Private family Mass of Christian Burial will take place for family at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Norway, with military honors.
