Wilbur Gene Shade

Wilbur “Gene” Shade, 90, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Kingston of Ashland. He was born in Mansfield on January 16, 1931 to the late Wilbur and Mildred (Champion) Shade.
Gene was a lifelong resident from Mansfield. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He later began working for and retired from the Mansfield Post Office as a mail carrier. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, doing yard work and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and kids, especially going out to dinner with them. A lover of animals, he always held a special place in his heart for his dogs.
He is survived by his children, David Shade, Theresa Cains, Ruth Shade, Roy (Debra) Shade and Chris Shade; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nephew, Bryan Shade.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Shade and Harold Shade.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery with Pastor Chad Berry officiating. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
