1925 ~ 2023
Weatherby, Missouri…Wesley Alvin Harms, age 97, was called home by his Lord and Savior on January 2, 2023. He was born April 20, 1925 in Weatherby, Missouri, the son of Herman Alvin and Stella Arletta (Polk) Harms.
He married the love of his life, Virginia Mae (Stephenson) Harms on May 16, 1944 and to this union three children were born. In December of that year, he entered into the U.S. Army serving in the southern Philippines as an automotive mechanic earning decorations for his service. He served until December of 1946, in which time, he came back home to his farm in Weatherby where he continued farming, something he would continue to do until his retirement at the age of 90.
Wesley and Virginia enjoyed square-dancing and traveling together. They visited every state except Alaska and Hawaii and even traveled to several places abroad including Australia, England, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland.
He was extremely proud of his family and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a lifelong member of the Hopewell Baptist Church serving as Superintendent, Deacon and Treasurer through the years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Victor Harms, Hubert Harms, and Harold Harms.
He is survived by his loving wife of 78 years, Virginia; children, Hazel (Russell) Newby, Smithville, MO., Judy (Ronald) Cobb, Platte City, MO, Lynn (Sheryl) Harms, Weatherby, MO; brother, Garold (Karen) Harms, Spring TX; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Turner Family Funeral Home in Maysville, with burial immediately following at
Hopewell Baptist Church with Full Military Honors.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church.
