Walter T. McNeely

Walter T. McNeely was born on April 17, 1927, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Moving to Chicago at 6 months of age, he grew up on the Southside of Chicago, attending St. Bernard’s Grammar School and then Quigley Preparatory Seminary before going into Military Service. He is a Graduate of the American Institute of Banking – De Paul University and the University of Wisconsin.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Infantry in the European Theater and was discharged as a Special Agent in the U.S. Counter Intelligence Corps (formerly O.S.S. – “Office of Strategic Services”).
Two days after his discharge from Service, he joined the National Security Bank of Chicago. He retired from the Bank on 12/31/92, after 46 years of service, rising through the ranks from sorting checks. He held the office of President for 20 years, was a member of the Board of Directors for 21 years and retired as Chairman and CEO.
His business and social affiliations included The Executive Club of Chicago, Bank Men’s Association, Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry, Illinois State Chamber of Commerce and The Robert Morris Association and served on the Advisory Board of St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago for 21 years. He was also a member of The Union League Club of Chicago, Mission Hills Country Club, and Heron’s Glen Country Club in North Ft. Myers, Florida.
Walter was a member of the NABAC Alumni Association, a Life Member of the Chicago Field Museum, a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Ghost Council #4977, a 4th Degree Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Shield Council #2330, a Member of the Palatine American Legion Post #690 and a Knight Commander of the Grand Cross of the Equestrian Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.
He and his wife Marian were married for 56 years until Marian was taken up into Heaven on November 3, 2005. They were residents of Palatine, Illinois, since 1972.
Walter and his wife Marian (nee Grady) McNeely had 5 children: Kathie (K.C.) Danz, Geri (Gordon) Stark, Tom McNeely, Mimi (Kevin) Kazimer and Teri (Dave) Stuckmann; 12 grandchildren: Kevin (Danielle) Danz, Bob (Jacquie) Danz, Shaun (Mandy) Schultz, Rob (Emily) Schultz, Ryan (Tiffany) McNeely, Ashley (Dan) Timmer, Connor Kazimer, Brandon Kazimer, Zach Stuckmann, Nicole (Mason) Masters, Ceili Stuckmann and Angel Rose Stuckmann; and 9 great grandchildren: Clare and Evelyn Danz, Vanessa Schultz, Aiden and Lily McNeely, and Camden, Adalynn, Piper and Lennox Timmer.
Visitation Wednesday, May 4th from 3-8 PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home 185 E. Northwest Hwy. Palatine and then Thursday, May 5th from 9:30-10:15 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church 2515 W. We prayed with him for the babies at the abortion mill for many years. He never missed come rain or shine. He will be surely missed.
