Waldean Glenn Rapp, 87, passed away June 2, 2023, at his home following a long illness.
Waldean was born in Oakley, Kan. on March 30, 1936, to Arlie and Edna Rapp (Thieler).
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nadine Wahle (Jack); and his wife, Colleen Rapp (Walker).
Waldean is survived by his son, William Rapp (Heather); grandsons, Tommy, Matthew and Sean; daughter, Ann Mason (Jeff); grandchildren, Mollie, Kyle (Patricia) and Natalie Nadler (Matan); great-grandson, Makai; daughter, Sandy Logan (Rik); grandchildren, Amanda and Carly Mejia (Alex); and many nieces and nephews.
Waldean graduated from high school in Junction City, Kan., attended Ottawa University Kansas, and obtained his master’s degree and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Arkansas.
Waldean and Colleen lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for many years with Waldean working for Cargill Corn Division. He retired from Cargill, Wayzata, Minn., as vice president of research and manager of analytical services.
Upon retiring, they moved to Iowa City to be closer to family and the Hawkeyes.
Earlier years, Waldean enjoyed watching his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, fishing, hunting, traveling with family and working on home projects. Waldean was always there to lend a helpful hand and provide his love and support.
A family Celebration of Life will be planned at a later time. The family would like to thank Iowa City Hospice for their loving care. Memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice.
