Vivian Mae (Wildman) Akers passed away April 9, 2023, after a short stay at Amana Care Center. She was 101 years old.
Vivian was born in Iowa City, Iowa, to William (Bill) and Minnie (Hildenbrand) Wildman. She had one brother, Ernest, and two sisters, Mildred Madden and Nonie Carney. She married Patrick Moes Akers on July 10, 1938, in Chicago.
Vivian is survived by her daughters, Mary Katherine Gibson and Sheila Ann Chapman. Vivian had 13 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; son, Patrick Jr.; and daughter, Nancy Mullnix.
She worked for Kelley Cleaners and retired from Owen’s Brush Company. In her later years, she had her grandson Kenny Mullnix at her side.
She was the historian of Iowa City. She was known by all as the cookie lady. She will be so missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 17, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the services.
