Virginia “Ginny” Stout
Cedar Rapids
Virginia “Ginny” Stout, 76, arrived at her eternal happy hour late Sunday morning, October 6, surrounded by close family. The family will be respecting her wishes of no services and “no one fussing about me,” however they will be toasting and celebrating her on November 2 from 1-4 p.m. at Clint and Jenna’s home, 6212 Andrle Rd, Ely, IA. All who knew her and loved her are welcome.
Ginny was born enroute to the hospital during a winter storm on February 5 to Loretta and Robert Oler. She entered this world fast and never slowed down. She was raised on the family farm in Springville, IA and graduated from Springville High School. Her younger years were spent hanging out with her siblings, riding motorcycles and being “just one of the boys.” In her twenties she raced stock cars in the men’s division and won! #88 Forever! She was a hard-working single Mom, sometimes working 3 jobs including the early morning shift at Hy-Vee bakery. Most of her working years were spent at Rockwell Goss, where she worked for 24 years until Goss closed in 2002. She then put in 10 years at Homeland Security as a TSA agent at the Eastern Iowa Airport prior to her retirement in 2013.
Ginny loved to be outside and tend to her yard, she enjoyed happy hour with friends, entertaining and catering parties, swimming laps at Jones pool (for over 45 years!), rollerblading and taking walks. If there was a party or get-together and Ginny showed up, you knew it was going to be a great time.
Ginny was blessed with and survived by her 2 sons, Chad (Chris) Stout of Mountain Green, UT and Clint (Jenna) Stout of Ely, IA. She was an amazing Mom, such a loving, caring, honest and strong example of a human being. She is also survived by her 4 most favorite people on this Earth and the lights of her life, her grandchildren, Camilla Basler of Aurora, CO, Tori Stout of Mesa, AZ and Cade and Emersyn Stout of Ely, IA. She was known as Grandma Crazy because she made everything fun and just a little bit wild. Also surviving are her brothers Keith (Lois) Oler of Culberson, NC and Kenny (Susie) Oler of Springville, IA, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many friends that loved her dearly and will miss her smile and laugh.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Charlene Thurston and brother Claude Oler.
Ginny was loved by all who knew her and although not possible to list everyone whose lives she touched and those that touched her life – we have to say to Coop, Becky, Molly, Kathy (Edna), Joanne, Paula and her late best friend of 56 years Susie – she loved you all unconditionally and you made her life complete. The family would also like to thank the unbelievable nurses at Compassus Hospice. We do not know how you do what you do but it is amazing, and you made her last few weeks here comfortable. To her around-the-clock caregivers, Becca, Kyra, Medi, Alyssa, Makayla, Lori, Chloe and Melissa, you made it possible for her to come home and spend her last few months with us. We cannot thank you enough for the care, love and support you gave to her and us. You are now family!
