Virginia “Ginny” Carsner died July 23, 2023, in Iowa City, Iowa.

Virginia May DeLancey was born April 28, 1932, in Manchester, Iowa, to Dorin and Hazel (Anderson) DeLancey. She graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1949. Virginia and George Carsner were married June 14, 1953, at the Marion, Iowa, Methodist Church.

Virginia is survived by her husband, George; her daughter, Sue (Rex) Wangler; her son, Tom; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Wangler; and Jaclyn (Matthew) Wicks.

Virginia’s parents preceded her in death as did her brother, David (Betty) DeLancey; and sisters, Ruth (Bill) Beery and Margaret (Carl) Schwandt.

Virginia worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, where she met George. She helped support George while he completed his studies at the University of Iowa and served in the U.S. Army. She was a charter member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and was the secretary in the church office for several years. She was a long-term member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Women, as well as active in the district United Methodist Women and Church Women United. Virginia worked in a local insurance company office and was a substitute classroom aide and clerical support in Iowa City schools. She led a local Girl Scout troop. She served many years as a Precinct Official at polling places on Election Day. Virginia was active in the Iowa City Parent Teachers Association, serving as its president for two terms. She was appointed a member of the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Commission. She played bridge in three local clubs.
