Violet S. Atteberry

Violet S. Atteberry, 89, of Athens, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 at Regency Care Center. She was born on September 5, 1932, in Paisley, Scotland, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Fraser) Smith. She married Edward E. Atteberry November 18, 1961 and he preceded her in death on March 18, 1983.

Also preceding her in death are her parents; stepdaughter, Cathy Atteberry; and eleven siblings.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol (Scott) Martin of Kankakee, Heather (Denis) Gonzales of Athens and Mary Ann (Glenn III) Nenninger of Livonia, MI; ten grandchildren, Mackennon (Lydia) Martin; Caley (Blake) Gilliland, Jonam Martin, Kyle (Aimee) Martin, Tyler (Lyndsi Lutz) Martin, Trenaty (Jason) Wright, Eric (Salena) Gonzales, Andrew (Samantha Green) Gonzales, Glenn Nenninger IV, and Abby Nenninger; four great-grandchildren, Mackellyn Martin, Brigston Wright, Tucker Wright and Eva Wendell; and several nieces and nephews.

Violet was a resident of Springfield most her life. She worked for Sangamon County Real Estate Records, retiring after 18 years as a clerk. She was a wonderful homemaker. Violet cared deeply for her family and surrounded them with love, always.

Private family services are being held followed by interment at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
