Victoria Ann Harney Phillips, 71, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, at the Prairie House Living Center, Plainview, Texas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 228 E. Jefferson, Iowa City, Iowa, with Father Stephen Witt officiating. The rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, with visitation to follow from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Vicki was born July 15, 1951, in Iowa City, the daughter of Vincent and Marguerite (Dostal) Harney.

She was a 1969 graduate of Iowa City High School and attended the University of Iowa. She married Jon Michael (Mike) Phillips on Oct. 3, 1970, They had recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Vicki started her banking career at Hawkeye State Bank, Iowa City, then moved to Huron, S.D., and Huron State Bank in the mid-1970s, then on to Grand Forks, N.D., as a vice-president commercial lending at First National Bank until moving to Macomb, Ill., in 1993. While in Macomb, she once again was a commercial lender and vice president at Union National Bank. Upon moving to Plainview, Texas, in 1999, she took a short break from banking until 2000 when she resumed her banking career with American State Bank in Lubbock, Texas. The bank’s name changed over the years, but her dedication to banking did not as she became a senior vice president for Prosperity Bank, retiring in May 2020.

Community service was a part of her life, serving as an active supporter of the U.S. Air Force as an Honorary Squadron Commander at Grand Forks Air Force Base. She also acted as a local host for foreign guests under the USIA Meridian House Visitor’s Program while living in North Dakota and Illinois. Vicki was a member of the American Bankers Association, serving on local, regional and national committees and she also served as president of the Macomb Chamber of Commerce.

She was a member of St. Alice Catholic Church in Plainview, Texas.

Vicki is survived by her husband, Mike of Plainview; her sisters, Joyce Carroll (Steve) of Iowa City and Janet Harney (Ed Broyles) of Alexandria, Va.; her brother, Larry Harney of Iowa City; sisters-in-law, Soni Harney of Iowa City and Marsha Harney, of Redding, Calif.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Philip and Mike; and her beloved grandparents.
