Veronica Rose Mackey, 86, of Center Point, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Center Point. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker. The saying of the rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Center Point Cemetery.

Veronica was born to her loving parents, Charles and Delores Milbach, on Sept. 13, 1937, in Walker, Iowa. Raised on the farm along with her seven siblings, she attended Walker High School and graduated in 1955. In 1956, Marvin and Rozena McVey, introduced Veronica to the love of her life, David Mackey. They quickly fell in love and were married on Dec. 15, 1956. Together they had four children, whom they built their life upon.

Veronica was a supportive mother, who was always attending her childrens’ events. She worked as a bank teller at Iowa State Bank in Center Point, always greeting people with a great, big smile and flashy earrings. She retired alongside her husband, so they could be together, spending a good amount of time traveling to casinos. When she wasn’t spending time with David, she was always working with her hands, whether it be crocheting, drawing, sewing or gardening. She was always on the lookout for a “rummage” sale, and she spent many weekends going to flea markets. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She enjoyed having lunch dates with her sisters, playing with her grandkids on the farm, and watching her great-grandchildren get into mischief. With her husband, Veronica built a beautiful life that will live on for generations to come.

Survivors include her four children, Thomas Mackey of Tipton, Iowa, Timothy (Lori) Mackey of Piedmont, Okla., Douglas (Susan) Mackey of Des Moines, Iowa, and Julie (Jim) Pfeiffer of Walker, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mae Madison, Rita Hampton, Herb (Carolyn) Milbach, Jeanette Walsh, Linda (David) Mueller and Roseanne (Mike) Harrison; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Mackey; her parents; her brother, James Milbach; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as her beloved dog, Maggie.
