Verlon R. Huston, 80, of Davenport, formerly of Wyoming, passed away on April 16, 2023, at Promedica in Davenport.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 24, at Wyoming United Methodist Church, where a visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to his service. Burial will be at the Wyoming Cemetery. Dawson Funeral Services of Wyoming is caring for his family.
Verlon Ray was born on Sept. 10, 1942, in Anamosa, Iowa, to Paul and Anna Marie (Nowachek) Huston. He graduated from Wyoming High School in 1960. On Dec. 17, 1960, he was united in marriage to Karen Pavlista at the Wyoming United Methodist Church. In his earlier years, he worked as chief of police for the city of Monticello, and then worked at the Anamosa State Penitentiary as a lieutenant until early retirement. Verlon farmed in Jones County for many years. Verlon was an avid hunter and fisherman; he loved being outdoors. He always enjoyed his family camping trips to Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and playing cards with his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Karen; daughter, Donna (Dean Dick) Huston; son, Daniel Huston, all of Davenport; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter on the way; two brothers, Dennis (Phyllis) Huston and Clifton Huston, both of Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Doreen Agan; and a brother, Richard Huston.
