Valeriana Mendez

Valeriana Mendez, age 96, of Plano, IL for over 50 years, was called Home to be with God, surrounded by her loving and devoted family on Friday, December 22, 2023 at her home. She was born on September 16, 1927 in Durango, Mexico the daughter of Jesus and Sotera (Corral) Corral.

Valeriana was united in marriage on December 24, 1951 to Pomposo Mendez and they spent the next 70 years happily together until his passing on April 8, 2022. Mrs. Mendez was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Plano, IL. Valeriana was employed by CTS Knights in Sandwich, IL until her retirement. Valeriana

was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Valeriana is survived by her children, Herminda (Ceferino) Arreala of Hanover Park, IL, Jesus (Angelita) Mendez of Plano, IL, Juan (Magdalena) Mendez of Sandwich, IL, Elizabeth (Jose Angel) Avila of Plano, IL, Misael (Yolanda) Mendez of Earlville, IL, Saul (Rosa) Mendez of Plano, IL, Neftali Mendez of Plano, IL, and Sylvia (Arnoldo) Martinez of Plano, IL; her 17 grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren; her 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Catalina Gamboa of Mexico; as well as many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Sotera Corral; her husband, Pomposo Mendez; her five brother; and her three sisters.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 West South Street, Plano, IL. Interment will follow in the Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano, IL.

Friends may visit from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Plano, IL.
