Timothy “Tim” J. Hammes, 74, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 3 PM to 5 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a Service of Remembrance will follow at 5 PM. Father Ed Fitzpatrick will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tim Hammes Memorial Fund c/o Green State Credit Union.
Tim was born on November 10, 1949 in Sigourney, the son of Omer and Burnita (Besser) Hammes. He was a graduate of Keota High School, where he played and excelled at many sports. On August 27,1977 Tim married Rita Raub in Dysart, Iowa.
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, retiring in 2002. Following retirement Tim worked at Pleasant Valley.
Tim was a member of the Cedar Ridge Country Club. He loved watching the New York Yankees, the Green Bay Packers, the Hawkeyes and especially enjoyed time spent golfing and playing cards with friends. Most important to Tim was his family and cherished moments with his grandchildren. He loved following Isaac and Izzy in their activities and fishing with them.
Tim is survived by his wife, Rita and their children, Tanya Hammes of Iowa City and Zach (Emily) Hammes of Coralville; three grandchildren, Isaac, Isabelle “Izzy”, and Jonah; his sister, Annette (John) Stemmler; brother and sisters-in-law, Rex (Judy) Raub, Renee (Mike) Droll, and Cheryl Raub; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Earl and LaVaun Raub, and brother-in-law, Steve Raub.
