Timothy J. Ryan, M.D.

Of Lake Geneva, WI, formerly Wadsworth, IL

Timothy J. Ryan, 71, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

Tim was born in Chicago to Daniel and Joan (Lauer) Ryan.  He attended Avon Grade School, Grayslake Community High School, University of South Florida and Northwestern University before graduating from Creighton Medical School.   In 1977 he married his high school sweetheart Jerri Lynn Winters, who survives him.

Tim enjoyed his comic book collection that he began when he was 7 years old.  He always teased his mother about throwing away his first issue of Spiderman.  He was known for his love of animals from his Alaskan Malamutes to his Doodles, Hector and Otis; and for his loyalty and generosity to his friends and family.  Tim loved sports; playing football and baseball through his high school years.  He was an avid White Sox fan and a life-long dream was fulfilled when he was able to attend the World Series in 2005. His enthusiasm for golf over the past 40 years was something he shared with so many: the Stiff Shafts, his 80-year-old father, Geneva National friends, and an annual golf trip with “the guys” to the Dominican Republic.

Tim did his surgical residency at UC-Irvine in Orange County, California; followed by a Vascular Fellowship at U of I-Chicago. He and Jerri moved back to their hometown in Lake County, Illinois in 1983 to bring “Quality Vascular Surgery” to an area that prior to his arrival sent patients to Chicago or Milwaukee for emergency vascular surgical care.  Tim was dedicated and highly respected in his field by fellow physicians, nurses, and OR techs.  He brought innovative endovascular treatment to Lake County.  Tim loved his patients, his family, and his friends.  His biggest regret after retiring was that he was not able to take part in the surgical care provided by Mercy Ships.

Tim is also survived by his sister Kathleen (Tom) Goldman; nephew Zachary Goldman; niece Dannaelle (Jake) Colito and great nephew and niece Leo and Violet Colito.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Joan and brother Daniel (Danny) Ryan.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Community Church, N2620 Harris Road, (at Hwy 50), Lake Geneva, Wisconsin 53147.  The Church will be open at 10:30 AM.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family has asked that you donate in Tim’s name to Calvary Community Church for their medical missions work in Honduras or Lakeland Animal Shelter in Delavan, Wisconsin.
