Thomas “Tom” Robinson, 94, passed away at his residence on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Vinton, with Father Jim Brokman as Celebrant. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg. A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Those not attending the rosary may visit with the family from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the church and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Tom was born in Brookfield, Mo., the son of Albert and Mary (Krumpelman) Robinson. He graduated from high school in Missouri. On June 13, 1953, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Lint at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Tom was employed by Collins Radio for 34 years, retiring in 1988.
Fondest memories of Tom were when he was dancing with his favorite partner, Charlotte, listening to polka music, watching Lawrence Welk or westerns on TV, walking the timber, working on tractors or cars, and spending time with his “grands, great-grands and great-great-grands.” Tom was a proud member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Vinton.
Tom is survived by his children, Anna Hurst, Mike (Becky) Robinson, Carolyn Robinson, Kathryn Robinson, Stephanie (Bill) Jelinek, Pat (Cindy) Robinson, John Robinson and Mary Robinson; 102 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter on the way.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; Charlotte, his wife of 69 years; grandson, Patrick Robinson; sons-in-law, Mike Stratton, Dean Caltvedt and Melvin Hurst; eight siblings; and in-laws, Orville and Elsie Lint.
A memorial fund has been established.
