Thomas “Tom” Karabatsas

Thomas “Tom” Karabatsas, age 80, of Chicago, passed away suddenly on May 29, 2021. Loving and devoted son of the late Athanasios and the late Vasiliki “Kiki” Karabatsas, adored brother of the late Stella Karas. Cherished and generous cousin and friend to many. Tom was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, and immigrated to Chicago with his family in 1951. He excelled in school, and translated for several first cousins, aunts and uncles who eventually arrived in Chicago from Greece. Tom graduated from Lindblom High School and the Illinois Institute of Technology, and began his professional career as a physics teacher at Lindblom High School. He was a computer consultant and a long time Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Chicago City Colleges – Wilbur Wright and Harry S. Truman Colleges. Tom was a voracious reader, enthusiastic conversationalist, very sociable, and loved to travel, especially to Thailand. He will be greatly missed by his multitude of relatives and legion of friends. Visitation at Smith Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago on Sunday, June 6, 2021 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm with a Trisagion Service at 2:45 pm. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Tom’s name.
