Thomas Carroll Nelson, 87, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, surrounded by the love of his family.
A native of Henderson County, Carroll was the son of the late Quay and Gladys Corn Nelson. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 22 years, Brenda Lance Nelson, brother, Edward Nelson, and sisters, Janice Nelson and Jeannette Ballew.
Carroll grew up in the Barker Heights community where he attended Barker Heights Baptist Church. He attended Flat Rock High School, later completing his GED and serving in the National Guard. He obtained his license as an electrical contractor and worked side by side with his father, Quay, in the family business, Nelson Electric Company. Upon his father’s retirement, he took over the family business. He and his wife, Brenda, became general contractors and built many homes in Henderson County and Buncombe County. He loved southern gospel music, country music, fishing, stock car racing, and classic cars especially the Ford Mustang. His first car was a Ford Coupe, Model A.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol Anderson (Steve) of Knoxville, Tennessee and son, Robert Jarvis (Kelly) of Pacolet, South Carolina; grandson, John David of Knoxville, Tennessee; and granddaughters, Ashley and Lindsey of Pacolet, South Carolina.
The family would like to thank the staff of DaVita Hendersonville for the care and compassion they provided during the past year. The family is grateful to the staff of Hot Dog World and Harry’s Grill where Carroll loved to dine. Their kindness and caring concern was a great comfort to him.
The family will receive friends at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm. The Reverend Robert Jarvis, his son, is officiating. The interment is private.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Welcome Baptist Church, 206 Nichols Ave, Union, South Carolina 29379.
