Thelma May Assel
1940 – 2023
Altamont, Missouri………. Thelma May Assel, age 82, passed away peacefully at Cameron Regional Hospital on April 23, 2023. She was born August 22, 1940, to Macy M. Palmer and Alice J.(Moulin) Palmer in rural Daviess County.
On August 25, 1958, she was united in marriage to Ronald F. Assel. Together, they had two children, son, Ronald F. Assel, Jr. and daughter, Linda M. Rossiter. Thelma loved spending time with her family and was so proud of her grandchildren. She was looking forward to being a great-grandmother this September. She loved being a farm wife, helping her husband and son out with cattle and running a tractor in the fields or hauling grain to town. She also loved to garden and make quilts for her family.
Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Ronald D. Palmer, and half-sister, Betty Cox.
She is survived by her son, Ronald F. Assel, Jr., daughter, Linda M. Rossiter (Larry), grandchildren, Macy Rhea (Eli), Theron Rossiter (Kayla Demcewolf), and Calvin Rossiter (Courtney Dotson), sister-in-law, Vida Williams (Kenneth), numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Thelma’s wishes were to be cremated. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of Turner Family Funeral Home.
