Susan Gail Valenta, 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at the Keystone Care Center with her family by her side.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, Iowa, followed by the funeral services at 11 a.m. The Rev. David Lingard will be officiating. Interment will be held at National Cemetery in Vining, Iowa, following the service.

Susan was born on Jan. 17, 1951, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, to Luverne and Leona (Katz) Feuerbach. Susan graduated in 1969 from Benton Community High School. A few years later, on May 3, 1975, she was united in marriage to Gary Valenta at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, Iowa. From that union, Brian was born in 1977.

Susan was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, Iowa. She worked in various nursing homes and restaurants owning many of the kitchen duties, including cooking. She and Gary also owned and operated the Wagon Wheel in Elberon, Iowa for six years. It didn’t take long for Susan to be well known for her delicious tenderloins. In addition to loving her time in the kitchen, Susan enjoyed reading, playing cards/games, gardening, Elvis Presley music and movies and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. All of that being said, nothing made Susan more proud than attending her son, Brian’s, sporting events, followed by spending time with her three extremely active grandchildren. Time with family and friends were Susan’s most cherished moments throughout her life.

Susan is survived by her son, Brian (Leslee) Valenta of Grimes; her brother, Bruce (Velda) Feuerbach of Atkins; sister, Sara (Tom) Wessling of Atkins; brother, Dan (Lynn) Feuerbach of North Liberty; and three grandchildren, Zoey, Wyatt and Tate Valenta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; and her parents.
