Susan “Sue” E. Simmons, 60, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Avita Health System-Ontario Hospital.
Born June 3, 1961, in Wellston, Ohio, she was the daughter of Mary Alice (Goodwin) Womack and Robert K. Henry Sr. An area homemaker her entire life, Sue was a loving, caring and gentle woman who was always there for anyone in need. Her tenacious and determined personality brought her through many trials along the way and her strength was admirable. Sue loved her family but her children and grandchildren were special points of joy for her. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked at various clubs in the area for many years. Sue was a member of Lincoln Heights Baptist Church. She enjoyed visiting Amish country and visiting Bent ‘N Dent stores. Sue enjoyed time outdoors mushroom hunting and fishing and passing the time with her mom at the lake.
She is survived by her husband of 9 years, Rodney Simmons; four children, Michael (Jayme) Criss, Kyle Criss (Rhonda Chelski), Melissa Criss (David Ramey), and Joseph (Kendra) Jarrell; step daughter, Sarah Simmons; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert K. (Barb) Henry Jr., Scott C. Henry and Ronald (Shelly) Henry; a sister, Daphne Long; her mother and step father, Mary Alice and Thomas Womack; her mother-in-law, Loretta June Simmons; and many nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her father, Robert K. Henry Sr.; a nephew, Robbie Stivenson; father-in-law, Gene Simmons; and step father, Fred McClure.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Wilson officiating. She will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
