SuLin Hodges
- September 14, 2022
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to her heavenly home on September 12, 2022. SuLin was born to the late Robert Leroy and Wilma L. McSmith on February 14, 1950 in San Angelo, Texas. She graduated from Granbury High School in 1968 and wed her high school sweetheart James Hodges on December 27, 1969.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Janice McSmith and Shirley Melton.
A long-time resident of Granbury and lifetime member of Acton Baptist Church, SuLin was truly blessed with an abundant life. She raised three children, Jason Hodges, Justin Hodges and Jodi Stewart. Along the way she coached little league baseball, got a real estate license, substitute taught in Granbury schools, and raised Dorper sheep. She was the queen of side hustles.
SuLin was also an accomplished musician. She played and sang in professional bluegrass circles and could master any instrument with strings. Her first love was the banjo, which she taught herself to play while riding in the backseat from Colorado to Granbury with her parents cheering her on.
SuLin was also a talented craft artist, not only dabbling, but mastering sewing, crochet, knitting, wood work, pottery, oil painting, leatherworking, gourd carving and more. Additionally, she was often seen around the farm driving a skid steer, hauling hay with her tractor, or cutting firewood with her chain saw. There wasn’t much she wouldn’t try.
SuLin found real joy being with family, especially the ones who called her Nonnie. Her 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved travelling to the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico, combing beaches for treasures, and looking for a hot slot machine. She and James attended the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo 52 consecutive years and cheered at most TCU football games.
SuLin is survived by her husband of 52 years, James Hodges, her sister Lois and brother-in-law Ross Word, her son Jason and his wife Julie Hodges, son Justin and wife Audra Hodges, and daughter Jodi and husband Kirk Stewart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to DeCordova Bend Estates / Acton Volunteer Fire Department, St. Judes, or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
Visitation will be prior to the service, 1-2pm, Sunday, September 18, 2022, Acton Baptist Church. Service will be at 2pm and committal service at Acton Cemetery.
