Steven Joseph Henry, 79, passed away May 11, 2023, at his home after a lengthy and courageous battle against cancer. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service, 1 p.m., at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Interment with military honors will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Steve is survived by his children, James and Michelle; grandchildren, Brycen and Amanda; and great-granddaughter, Gianna. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mickey; wife, Judy; brothers, Ronald, David, Robert, Gregory and Marvin.

Steve was born Sept. 30, 1943, in Decorah, Iowa. He left school at 17 to join the Army. He was stationed in Germany in the 1st Division, the Big Red One, from 1960-1963. After completing his military service, he came to Cedar Rapids where he met his wife of 29 years, Judy, who passed away May 11, 2004.

He was a life member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers beginning at Iowa Manufacturing from 1964-1969, where he served two terms as financial secretary of Harmony Lodge 831. He went on to work at Quaker Oats from 1970 until his retirement in 2002.

In retirement he enjoyed going to the gym where he made many friends. He enjoyed traveling, taking a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand with his grandson. He went to baseball games to see his favorite teams, the Yankees and Cubs, which included a trip to London to see the Yankees. His final trip was to Las Vegas to see his granddaughter and great-granddaughter. Most of all he enjoyed time with his two wonderful grandchildren who loved him very much and brought a great deal of joy to his life.
