Steven Charles Sandy
Kansas City, Mo.
Steven Charles Sandy, 69, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023. A memorial event will be held at a later date in Michigan. There will be no visitation and a private burial in Mount Olive Cemetery, Troy, Kan.
Steve began courting Sabra (Harris) Sandy in 1984 while she was still residing in Cedar Rapids. Prior to e-mail and texting, Steve corresponded with Sabra through letter writing. Steve thoroughly enjoyed his many visits to Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Anamosa and Hazleton before and after he married Sabra in 1988. He loved getting together with Bradford Harris (brother-in-law) and Glen Harris (father-in-law) at Pagliai’s Pizza in Iowa City as well as the Kool Moo, Maid-Rite and The Flying Wienie in Cedar Rapids.
Steve’s Iowa connection was strong. He enjoyed following local news from the area. After Steve began displaying symptoms of Parkinson’s disease in 2014, he was no longer able to drive to Iowa. Bradford made sure that he kept Steve up-to-date with his fishing adventures and details of the yearly Trekfest in Riverside.
Steve may not have been born and raised in Iowa, but he was truly an “Iowan” through and through with a solid work ethic and strong values. He will be greatly missed by his Iowa family and friends along with his Michigan, Kansas, Missouri and Tennessee family and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sabra (Harris) Sandy; his children, Anna and Riva (Steve’s Russian Blue fur babies); and brother-in-law, Bradford Harris.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Glen Harris; and mother-in-law, Doris (Harris) Sanders.
The family requests no memorials, but remember to smile and be kind to others.
Bye for now, Steve. See ya next time! Love, Sabra and Bradford
