Stephen Garfield Anderson Sr.

Stephen Garfield Anderson Sr., 84, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away peacefully at home Monday, November 8, 2021 following a long battle with cancer. He was born August 21, 1937 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Edward and Lula (Scarberry) Anderson.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Steve was in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving on two aircraft carriers. He had a distinguished career in law enforcement, but had many interests, including photography and being outdoors hunting, fishing and feeding the birds and deer. He was an avid golfer highlighted by a hole-in-one in Rota, Spain. Steve was a cheerful gentleman who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; daughter, Dawn (Rick) Evarson; sons, Stephen Anderson Jr. and Jason (Shannan) Anderson; sister, Sandra Schreiber; grandchildren, Kyle, Miranda, Hannah, Cameron, Bryan, Colt, Amyra, Lucas and Seth; six great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Ariel Morningstarr; two sisters-in-law, Charisse Finn and Heather Christian; brother-in-law, Jay Spriggs; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four half sisters, Opal, Birdie, Libby and Betty; one half brother, Billy; brother, Adam; sister-in-law, Yvonne Spriggs; and one grandson, Zackery Baker.
A celebration of life and gathering will be held Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. following morning worship at Southside Christian Church, 2055 Middle Bellville Rd., Mansfield, Ohio 44904. In lieu of flowers, Steve would like any donations made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
