Stephen Edward Norton, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died suddenly on June 14, 2024. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Murdoch Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.

Steve was born in Anamosa, Iowa, to William “Bill” and Ilene Norton on August 12, 1945. As a teen he spent his time running around Jones County causing trouble with his brothers and his friend Ron, going to dances, and playing sports for the Anamosa Blue Raiders before graduating in 1963.

He worked many different jobs throughout his career, including time at Collins Radio helping support the Apollo missions, a truck driver for Wholesale Feeds, a Supervisor at Harnischfeger and then back to Rockwell Collins, retiring from there as an SAP Business Analyst in 2007.

During his time at Collins Radio in the 1960’s he met the love of his life, Carol Larsen. On March 10, 1969 they traveled to Chicago, IL (for a second time; Carol had forgotten her birth certificate a couple of days before) where they were married and started their 55 loving, glorious and entertaining years together. They started a family soon after with Mark (Josie), Kerri (David Wagner) and Ryan (Nicole). And that led to 6 grandkids and 3 great-grandkids.

Throughout his life he loved bowling, golf, softball and more recently, attending bible study, playing online video games, writing his life story, creating pencil drawings and attending his grandkids’ events. He loved family gatherings the most.

Steve is survived by wife, Carol, sons Mark and Ryan, his daughter, Kerri; six grandkids John, Hunter, Hannah, Kobe, Jackson and Cooper; three great-grandkids, Mavryk, Marshall and Harlow; his sister, Sandra Brunscheen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ilene; brothers Don, Billy and Denny and a grandchild, Aiden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
