Shirley P. Flauhaus

Shirley P. Flauhaus (Holtz), 90, of Dover, gained her angel wings on the evening of March 3, 2022 at the Inn at Northwood following a period of declining health.

Born in Akron, Ohio on January 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Geraldine Holtz and the third oldest of seven children.

She was preceded in death by her beloved late husband of 56 years, Robert L. Flauhaus whom she met on a blind date and later married on May 24, 1958. Together, they enjoyed a lifetime of creating memories with their family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her only son, Rod Flauhaus of Streetsboro, her two granddaughters, Kyra and Kendra Flauhaus and a great-grandson, Reign Flauhaus. She is also survived by her niece, Dixie Wiles of Berryville, Va.

Upon completing her high school education, Shirley worked at a variety of jobs starting with BF Goodrich in Akron, eventually retiring from the Tuscarawas Country Board of Realtors’ Multiple Listing Agency. Along the way she made many friendships, enjoyed traveling with her late husband, collecting bells and Santa Clause figurines, making quilts and spending time with her family and friends. She always had time, a smile, and a kind word for anyone. She also had a soft spot in her heart for any animal, often feeding strays and taking care of them.

Her faith was nurtured at First United Methodist Church in Dover for more than 60 years, where she volunteered in various activities and assisted in the church office.

Her love was never-ending, and her influence and legacy will live-on not only in her family but with anyone who ever had the opportunity to spend some time with her. She will be a guardian angel to so many.

“Perhaps the lights in the night sky are not stars, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy. There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts.”

A service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., Dover on March 9th beginning with visitation at 10:30 am and service at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park. Friends are invited back to Geib’s hospitality room where a meal will be shared following the committal service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
