Shirley Mae Poplawski, 92, of Springfield, died on December 19, 2021, at Concordia Village.
Shirley was born on April 18, 1929, in Joliet, Illinois to Arthur and Charlotte (Foeh) Chapman. She married Chester J. Poplawski on June 20, 1953. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Charlotte Chapman, two brothers, Roy and Fred “Bud” Chapman, three sisters, Elda M. Mastin, Marguerite V. Lucenta, and Charlotte Jean Kevish.
She is survived by three children, Stella M. Kowalke (Don) of Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin, Cynthia D. O’Keefe (John) of Springfield, Illinois and Tom Poplawski of Newport, Arkansas, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley graduated from Joliet Township High School Central. She worked for J. E. Messenger Co. of Joliet, Illinois and Newport, Arkansas for 30 years as office manager. She owned and managed Evans Press in Newport, Arkansas for 16 years. She was a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years, was active in the Business and Professional Women’s Organization, and enjoyed volunteering at Cathedral Church of St. Paul. Shirley completed many detailed needleworks, made numerous prayer shawls for others and traveled all over the world.
A private family service will be held at Cathedral Church of St. Paul, with interment in the Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cathedral Church of St. Paul.
