Shirley Mae Mielke
of Williams Bay
Shirley Mae Mielke was born September 26, 1928 in Chicago to Amund and Agnes (Osberg) Njust. She passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at her home in Williams Bay.
Shirley grew up in Chicago and was 16 years old when Daniel Mielke walked by, noticed the cute girl on the porch and decided to ask her out. Knowing that he wouldn’t marry someone who didn’t know Christ, their first date was to a meeting where a 26 year old local pastor named Billy Graham was speaking. In 1944, at 16, Shirley responded to the gospel and began a journey with Christ that would lead her home to Heaven at 93.
Dan and Shirley married in 1947 and honeymooned in Lake Geneva, WI. They established their family first in Chicago and then (since 1969) in Williams Bay, WI. They worked together in the family printing business, served in Awana Clubs and camps, and developed a youth center outreach to local students. Shirley led many Bible studies and headed up a MOPS ministry with young moms at Calvary Community Church where she was an active member for over 50 years. One of her great joys was singing in the choir (with Dan) and participating in community outreach choir concerts.
Since Dan’s death in 1995, Shirley maintained a very active life of family, ministry and travel. She was able to visit Norway, Guatemala, Israel, India and Mexico along with many US trips to visit her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Shirley’s final days were celebrated at home, surrounded by family and friends, filled with memories, stories, humor and tears of sadness mixed with joy. She is now in the presence of the Lord that she followed faithfully for 77 years!
Shirley is survived by her children Daniel (Glenda) Mielke, David (Penny) Mielke, Donald (Karen) Mielke, Kathlyn (David) Mase, and Susie (Geoff) Martineau; 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel H. Mielke; her parents and stepfather; and brother Ray (Sue) Njust.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Calvary Community Church, N2620 Harris Rd., Williams Bay from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM. Private family burial will be at East Delavan Cemetery.
In lieu flowers memorials may be made in Shirley’s memory to your favorite charity.
