Shirley A. Hayden

Shirley A. Hayden, 93, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Lincoln Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 6, 1928 in Springfield to Harold and Nellie (Taylor) Sturm, and they preceded her in death. She married Ralph E. Hayden on February 14, 1948 and he preceded her in death on October 18, 1984.
She is survived by two sons, Paul R. (Gayle) Hayden of Elkhart, Roger L. (Robin) Hayden of Tolono, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was a resident of Elkhart from 1956-1985, Springfield from 1985-2018, and Lincoln from 2018 to present. She was a homemaker, a previous member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, at which time she was very active in church organizations and mission trips to Costa Rica, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Norma Crowe, and one brother, Harold Sturm.
Visitation: 11 am – 12 pm, Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home-Sherman.
Funeral Service: 12 pm, Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home-Sherman, with Reverend Dr. Mark Estrop officiating. Burial will follow at Elkhart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elkhart Fire Department or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
