Sharon Rose Claussen, formerly of Davenport, passed away Wednesday September 4, 2024, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Transitional Care Center Cedar Rapids, IA.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Runge Mortuary Davenport, IA. The family will greet friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Friday at the Mortuary. Sharon was born January 28, 1938, in Davenport, IA to William and Evelyn (Engels) Jurgens. She met the sweetheart of her life, Jerome M. Claussen and they were engaged just three weeks after meeting and married on August 15, 1959, in Davenport. This union lasted 65 years.

Sharon worked as a legal secretary for Attorney Eugene Van Driel for many years prior to becoming a realtor with Mel Foster Company from where she retired.

Sharon was very strong in her faith, active in her church life, and most recently was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Davenport. Earlier in life she bred and raised canaries, often having as many as 78 birds in the house. Her dogs were her treasured companions having had two Boston Terriers and four Corgis. She enjoyed sewing clothes and playing the piano. She passionately collected dolls, Lowell Davis figurines, and many other items fondly referred to as gimcracks by Jerry.

Survivors include Jerry Claussen, Cedar Rapids, IA; 2 daughters Diane (Corey) Surom, Atkins, IA and Linda (Bradley) Peyton, Marion, IA; 4 grandchildren Megan Mullan, Nicole (Matt) Becker, Natalie (Mike) Ginty, and Noah Peyton; 1 great-grandchild Charlotte Becker; 1 sister Sandra Jurgens, Davenport, IA; sister-in-law Marsha (Tom) Woleshin, Fernandina Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mardelle (Jim) Beech.
