Sharlene Faye Kaufman Hanson, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024, surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A celebration of life will follow from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood. Burial will take place at a later date in Vining National Cemetery in Vining, Iowa.

Shar was born January 1, 1945, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, Iowa. She was the oldest child of Edward John Kaufman and Mary Jesina Kaufman. Shar attended county school in Elberon, Iowa, from first through fourth grade. From fifth grade on she attended Keystone Consolidated School where she was a cheerleader in high school. Shar was Miss Elberon in 1962 and graduated from Keystone Consolidated in 1963. In 1969, Sharlene married John Hanson; of this union was born two children, Shannon and Wade. Shar and John later divorced.

Shar worked at Mercy Medical Center in the medical billing field for many years. She was a longtime employee of Sam’s Club where she enjoyed working with the public. Shar was a member of a Birthday Club for many years. She enjoyed the monthly outings with her friends.

Sharlene is survived by her son, Wade (Michele) Hanson; son-in-law, Aaron Sisco; grandchildren, Morgan (Matt) Shaffer, Colby Wallander, Berlin (Ethan) Elgin, Taggart (Jewel) Hanson, and Gunnar Hanson; great-grandchildren, Shaylynn and Tysen, Isaac, Easton and Harper, Eliza, Aileen, and Naomi; and many nieces and nephews.

Sharlene is preceded in death by her sister, Linda Triggiani; brother-in-law, Terry Triggiani; her parents; and her daughter, Shannon.

Shar was a wonderful, caring person and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
