Sarah “Sally” A. Gorman, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, in her home, surrounded by her children after a brief illness. Private family visitation. Graveside Services: Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Sally (Hegarty) was born February 6, 1933, in Stanwood, Iowa, where she grew up on the farm. She graduated from St. Lukes Nursing School in 1954, and married Charles Gorman from Manchester, Iowa, on November 25, 1955, in Washington D.C.

She enjoyed many years living abroad in England and also in Washington state with her husband while he was in the Air Force. They returned to Cedar Rapids in 1969. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Cub Scout den mother, volunteer nurse, cook, and seamstress for the Emerald Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. She worked the night shift at St. Luke’s for years, retiring in 1996.

She will be remembered for many things; her love of Christmas, wicked sense of humor, love of her children and grandchildren, prolific ability to win mail-in sweepstakes (10K in gold, cruises, Safari, piles of T-shirts), sewing needlepoint prowess, drinking coffee 24/7, love for casinos, and the game pai gow.

Survivors include her daughter, Colleen and husband Donald Powers of Solon; three sons, Michael of Cedar Rapids, Francis of Las Vegas, and Timothy of Marion; sister, Sharon Fall of Stanwood; four grandchildren, Megan Schulte and Ben Hysler of Cedar Rapids, Danny and wife Alysia Powers of West Branch, Kenneth and Jennifer Gorman, both of Kurihama, Japan; and great-grandchild, Indica Mulcher.

Sally was preceded in death by parents, husband, Chuck; brothers, Thomas and Forest Hagerty; brother-in-law, Leo Fall Jr.; and niece, Harriet Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Mercy.
