Sandra “Babe” S. Sherlock
Iowa City
Sandra “Babe” S. Sherlock, age 77, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Legacy Senior Living.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Eagle’s Club in Iowa City.
Born on March 15, 1948, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Babe was the beloved daughter of Wilton “Bill” and Barbara (Stuart) Sherlock. She was raised in North Liberty, where she took immense pride in helping at the family’s Lighthouse Restaurant, a place that shaped her strong work ethic from an early age. She graduated from City High School in 1968.
Babe dedicated over four decades of her professional life as a machinist at Owens Brush, later known as Procter & Gamble. She retired in April 2010 after 43 years of service and developed many lifelong bonds with her coworkers.
A devoted sports enthusiast, Babe spent years playing softball and was a proud member of the Town Edge Beauty Salon bowling team. Together with her sister, Sheryl, she traveled across the country to compete in national bowling tournaments. Many cherished adventures were had that brought them even closer and created lasting memories.
Babe was a loyal supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, rarely missing a game. She also had a special fondness for all things John Deere, collecting memorabilia and taking immense pride in maintaining her yard on her John Deere mower. Summer was her favorite time of year, when she could be found outdoors, caring for her lawn and soaking in the sunshine.
She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, including her sister, Sheryl (Mike) Stalkfleet of Iowa City; her niece, Michelle Priesner of Raleigh, North Carolina; Sheryl’s stepson, Nickolai Stalkfleet of North Liberty; and her dear friend and caregiver, Patty Peters of Iowa City.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Legacy Senior Living for the compassionate care and unwavering kindness they provided throughout Babe’s time there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Barbara Sherlock.
