Samuel Phillip Cleveland
- April 14, 2021
Samuel Phillip Cleveland passed away February 24, 2021 after a prolonged period of illness.
Phillip was born and raised in Stephenville, TX. He graduated from Stephenville High School and completed general college coursework at Tarleton State University and Texas Tech before embarking on a long-term career as a right-of-way agent and land man for various energy companies. His first job with Brazos Electric Co-Op in Weatherford, TX took him all over the state, while his subsequent jobs through the years saw him working on oil and gas pipelines in places as far-ranging as Montana, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and back to Texas again.
What made him excel at his job was his ability to connect with almost anyone – he never met a stranger and made lifelong friends in each and every location he lived and worked. He was quick with a joke, great story, or an amazing card trick, and was incredibly generous with his time and resources to anyone in need. He made an indelible impact on the lives of those he touched with his humor, warmth, and curiosity about the people he encountered and places he traveled.
He was at his happiest though when spending time with family and friends especially if it involved a good meal, a fishing trip, or travel to just about any vacation spot in the Caribbean or the Gulf of Mexico. He was equally content to while away quality time with good company over a cup of coffee at Peacock’s, his favorite local Stephenville cafe. He was deeply loved by his children, siblings, extended family and many, many friends – and he loved them equally in return, something he took every opportunity he could to express.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Larkin and Ivy Lou Hinrichs Cleveland. He is survived by his son Garrett Cleveland of Stephenville; daughter Heather Cleveland of Weatherford; sister Judy Owens and husband Don of Belton; brother Don Cleveland and wife Carol of Granbury; and brother David Cleveland and wife Frances of Mineral Wells; step-son Brandon Duckett, wife Jayme, and children Alex and Alexus of Granbury: stepson Brad Duckett, daughter Shyanne, and wife Becca of Stephenville; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A graveside service and interment of his ashes will be held at Acton Cemetery on April 17th, at 2:00pm with a Celebration of Life reception to follow immediately after at the nearby Fountain Village Clubhouse.
