Sadonna Wray McMillen, 80, of Springfield, 80, went to be with the Lord AT 6:25 am Monday, December 6th, 2021 at 6:15 am at her home with her beloved daughter, Amy Taylor, by her side.

Along with Amy, she is survived by her sisters, Berdie (Gary) Mowery and Judy Fry; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Sabolo, Joshua and soon arriving, Adalynn, Blake Sabolo (Sam Wallace), Hannah (Drew) and Siena Fennewald, Taneka (Sam) Taylor-Nunez, Justin (Victoria), Jaxon and Amelia Taylor; Garrison (Natalie) Taylor, and Tony (Allie), Cayden and Anderson Taylor; her loyal four legged companion, Sophie, who was by her side for 16 years, as well as many dear friends.

She is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Donald “Mac” and her daughter, Molly.

Sadonna worked at the Wood River school district as a playground supervisor, then as a secretary to the nurse. Prior to retiring to care for her grandchildren, she was the school secretary for many years. She served on the library board and school board, and enjoyed teaching Sunday school.  She was a story teller, and a story listener. She was interesting, and interested. She could spend endless amounts of time pulling weeds or reading books. She was an animal and nature lover. She had a way of making any and everyone feel as though they were the most important person in the world. She was witty, kind, funny, genuine, and full of history and knowledge. Her home has always been full of little treasures that spoke special stories to her and her family.

Sadonna’s heart remained in Wood River, Illinois where she was a member of St. John UCC, a devoted volunteer of the Wood River City Museum, and could tell you where your significant other’s second cousin resided and what their mother’s maiden name was. She never met a stranger and people often found it difficult to not smile at her vibrant and unique personality.

A celebration of Sadonna’s life will be held in the spring at Pete Marquette State Park, where family and friends can share stories of her life.
