Ruth “Nancy” Waybill, 87, of Akins, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in St. Luke’s Hospital. Her wishes are cremation with no services. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Nancy was born on August 23, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Orrie and Lois Chapel. She grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from McKinley High School in 1954 and from the 1st Class of Practical Nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids in 1958. She worked in many positions in the medical field for some 40 years.

Nancy was united in marriage to Lowell Waybill on February 11, 1977, in the chapel at Cedar Memorial. They shared their love and partnership for 38 years until his death in March of 2015.

Surviving are her son, Kevin Sandon, her stepchildren, Dyanna Conner, Myron (Diane) Waybill, Ron Waybill, Connie (Mark) Petersen, Ronnie (Lisa) Waybill and Sheila Waybill-Kauffman, stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a special great-niece, Stephanie Chapel Helle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Dawn Herwig, Linda Hunt, brothers, Orrie Jr., Louis, David, Gerald and Darrell and her precious husband Lowell.

Nancy enjoyed her lovely home on the river, working in the yard, feeding the birds and squirrels, crossword puzzles, reading a book and estates sales. She loved her Yorkshire dog and had several in her lifetime, the last being “Swazie” her walking buddy who passed in September of 2015, at 14 years-to comfort her after his loss were her cats, Jingles and Rhett.
