Ronald M. Burroughs, age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the Vinton Lutheran Home, with his loving family by his side.

Private family interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.

Ron was born on July 2, 1939, at his grandparents’ home in Benton County, the son of Manfurd and Ada (Young) Burroughs. He graduated from Vinton High School with the Class of 1958. On July 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Janet Schutterle at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Ron held various jobs in his lifetime, including Green Giant, John Deere, Froning Elevator, and Thompson Feed Store. He retired in 2002 from the Vinton-Shellsburg School, where he was head of grounds and maintenance for 28 years. He loved to hunt, fish, and garden, as well as talking to people. He was a great fan of all his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Ron is survived by his wife Janet; sons, Brad (Dea) Burroughs, Brian (Rachel) Burroughs; 4 grandchildren, and 3 step-grandchildren, Beth (Nathan), Bryce (Devon), Brea (Cody), Teagan, Andy (Jenny), Shane (Molly), Devon (Anna); 7 great-grandchildren, Maryn, Kason, Rhett, Bennett, Banks, Paityn, and James.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, stepfather, Walter Marter and his uncles.
