Roger Lee Barns, 80, passed from this life on April 27, 2021 in Granbury, TX. He was born on June 18, 1940 in Vernon, TX to Oren B (Buster) and Grace (Beck) Barns. He graduated from Northside High School in near Vernon, TX in Wilbarger County. He attended Abilene Christian College (now Abilene Christian University) graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in June 1962 on a Monday night and married his life partner Marilyn Cantrell on the following Friday night. He continued his education the following year at ACC. He then moved to Pasadena, TX to teach school. He completed his Master of Education degree at the University of Houston in January 1967. He started his insurance career with Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company which took him to Hartford, CT for two and a half years.
Staying true to their Texas roots they moved back to continue to raise their family and be closer to the grandparents. He retired from Marsh & McLennan as a Commercial Insurance Broker in 2000. He was a lifelong active member of the church of Christ and served on the missions committee at the Granbury church of Christ until 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn, daughter, Bethany Barns and son, Brian Barns, and wife Kathryn and three beloved grandchildren, Hailey, Hayden and Halden, and a sister Shirley Mitschke and four nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
Funeral Service will be Friday, 10:30 AM, April 30, 2021 at the Granbury Church of Christ with burial at Hightower Cemetery in Bluff Dale, TX.
