Robert U. Winters III

Robert U. Winters III, 85, of Springfield, died at 2:02 pm, Friday, April 1, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 1, 1936 in Sublette, IL to Robert U., Jr. and Helen (Steele) Winters. He married Shirley Williams on November 25, 1956.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Philip James (Kimberly) Winters of Lockport, IL and Joseph A. (Pamela) Winters of Palatine, IL; daughter-in-law, Carol Winters of Missoula, MT; five grandchildren, Brian (Carolyn), Kevin, Elizabeth, Elena and Samantha Winters; three sisters, Carol (Michael) Simon of Swanville, ME; Rosemary Coplan of Milwaukee, WI, Cynthia Nelson of Lockport, IL; brother, David Winters of Shirland, IL; sister-in-law, Rosemary Winters of Hinsdale, IL and brother-in-law, Ronald Coplan of Morrison, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert U. Winters IV and brother, Raymond Winters.

Robert was a member of Illiopolis United Methodist Church. He retired from Auto Owners Insurance Company as an executive. Robert was a former mayor of Illiopolis.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
