Robert Rae Thompson, age 81, of Tuscarawas died peacefully, Wednesday, December 30, 2020, while in the care of Aultman Compassionate Care Center at Canton.

Born on February 19, 1939, at Dennison, Ohio, Bob was a son of the late Raymond Alfred Thompson and Bernice Katherine Dill Thompson.

Bob was a graduate of Eastmoor High School and attended college at Boise State and Kent State University. He retired from the United States Coast Guard as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 22 years of service.

Bob was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia where he was an instrumental part of the Men’s Prayer group. He was also a member of the Chief Petty Officer’s Association and a nearly twenty-year volunteer with Mobile Meals. Additionally, Bob was a former Dale Carnegie Instructor.

He is survived by his wife, the former Judith Knauss Frank whom he married on November 17, 1995, his children, Deedra Thompson of Oregon, and Victoria Thompson of Hartville, Ohio; Jean (Don) Richardson, of Dover, Robert (Bridget) Frank, Eric (Danielle) Frank, and Allen Frank all of Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Ian Johnston, Shane Johnston, Seth Johnston, Toni Frank, Bella Frank, and Tyson Frank, Gracen Frank, Violet Frank and Jonathan Frank and two great-grandchildren.

Completing the family are a sister, Sandra (Walter) Altizer of Florida, Cookie Owens of Dennison, Melba Helveston of Florida, Pam (Gary) Brown of Alabama and Joy Hutter of Florida as well a numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother and father, Bob was preceded in death by his step-mother, Melba Thompson, a sister, Faye Carlson, and a brother-in-law, James Owens and a granddaughter, Madison Frank.

At this time, there will be no public visitation or services. A Celebration of Bob’s life will be conducted at a later date when it is safe for all to raise their voices in song. Cremation will be conducted through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
