Bob was born June 6, 1950, in Chicago, IL, the son of Frederick L. and I. Vivian (Peterson) Lander. He was a 1968 graduate of Summit (NJ) High School where he played trumpet in the concert and marching bands. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, having earned both his Eagle and God & Country awards and lived his life according to those values. Bob followed in his parents’ footsteps and enrolled at Iowa State University where he was a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and graduated in 1973 with a BA in Accounting.

Bob was then employed by Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, IA. He held increasingly responsible positions in accounting until his retirement. During that time, when he wasn’t involved with his children’s extracurricular activities, Bob participated as a player and umpire in a softball league, for many years was active in a bowling league and went skydiving on more than one occasion. He and his wife Kathy (Koelker) were also busy as members of a hot air balloon chase team and as active church members of Hope United Church of Christ in Hiawatha. In retirement, Bob and Kathy lived in Anamosa until her death in 2019.

Bob found love again after reconnecting with his college sweetheart and married Vicki Pein in 2022.They made their home together in Indio, CA until his passing. While there, they ‘celebrated’ as many little things as possible and made countless special memories.

Bob was known by all to be a loving and dedicated husband and father. He was extremely loyal, supportive, a calming presence, generous, always putting others first, a good storyteller, silly, and with a wonderful sense of humor.

Those remembering him are his wife Vicki, his son Reid (Heather), his daughter Alicia, his brother Jim (Rachel), his brother-in-law John Heidewald, his sister-in-law Carol Jarvis (Howie Weinstein), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda Heidewald, his brother Tommy, and his wife Kathy.

The Lander family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the extraordinary care provided by the Eisenhower Health network, Reliance Hospice, and his Home Instead caregivers.
