Robert Francis Boyd, known as “Bob,” passed away peacefully November 30, 2024 at the age of 79. Born in Iowa City, IA, to Frank and Lucille (Leeney) Boyd on October 21, 1945, Bob lived a life full of love, faith, and service. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, brother-in-law, cousin and uncle, leaving behind well-taught lessons in life and a legacy of kindness and compassion.
Bob was a proud graduate of Regina Elementary and High School, and St. Ambrose College where he was twice Class President. Bob’s working career spanned 42 years as President and CEO of City Electric Supply and Boyd Investment Company. In addition to his professional achievements, Bob was deeply involved in his community, serving on numerous boards and participating in various fundraising efforts. His dedication to both his work and his community exemplified his lifelong commitment to service and philanthropy.
A man of deep faith, Bob’s greatest passion was his family and friends. He approached life with humility, strength, courage, grace, and kindness, always offering a helping hand and a listening ear. His sense of humor was legendary, and his wit could light up any room. Bob was also a passionate supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes, and his enthusiasm for his Hawks was contagious.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lucille Boyd and his faithful Guide Dog Ben. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Boyd; his sister, Diane Boyd; his children, Kelly Boyd, and daughter in law Khanphet “Noy” Boyd, Casey Boyd, and Molly Boyd; Stephanie Henn, and Adam Henn, and daughter-in-law, Angela Henn; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Taylor Boyd, Ryan Boyd, McKenna Boyd, Natalie Henn, and Olivia Henn. Bob is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Debbie Sass.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. A luncheon will follow. Visitation will be Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 4 PM to 7 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family request a donation in Bobs name be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind (PO Box 151200, San Rafael, CA 151200).
Bob’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity, humor, sage guidance and unwavering love for his family and friends.
