Robert Craig Austin
- March 29, 2021
Robert Craig Austin, 63, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021, in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Born in Dunkirk, New York, on June 16, 1957, Robert was one of seven children born to Thomas Earl Austin and Joyce Marilyn Fuss. He lived in the South Dayton area and attended Pine Valley High School, graduating from the Boces’ program in 1976.
Robert worked as a Master Tech for the Chrysler Corporation for 26 years at various garages in New York (Farrell’s), as well as in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Western North Carolina, where he moved in 1989. He became a truck driver in the early 90s and travelled throughout the United States and Canada for almost 20 years. He retired at 61 with 2.3 million miles under his belt. His favorite parts of his extensive travels were Northern Idaho and Utah, and he loved watching the sun in the west. He also loved to be the first one on the snow-covered roads in Canada; he enjoyed plowing for everyone and racing the deer. Robert had a witty sense of humor and a contagious grin. He also had a lifelong love for a game of pool, going hunting, and playing golf.
His parents, as well as his beloved sister Barbara and his brothers Michael and Mark, precede Robert in death. His brother, Dale Austin, and his sisters, Pamela Ostrander and Deena Lahnen, survive Robert. His first wife, Yolanda (Lonnie) Dexter, and their three children, Alan, Brenda, and Craig, as well as his second wife, Laura Marrero, and their son Cody, also survive Robert. In addition to his four children, Robert was the proud grandfather to ten grandchildren (Gage, Clayton, Kennedy, Pyper, Hayley, Dakotah, India, Tre, Andrew, and Patrick), as well as a great-grandfather (Kamden).
At Robert’s request, there will be no services. Please keep Robert’s family in your thoughts and prayers; he was loved dearly and will be forever missed. Condolences can be sent to 244 Salisbury Rd., Hendersonville, NC, 28792.
